Nagase & Co., Ltd. will at the end of November launch "TRANSGEAR DMA-100", a compact network media adapter that allows users to create various video, image and music files on a computer via an Ethernet connection. Prior to that, Nagase has begun accepting orders from corporate users who use in-house networks. The product is sold through TRANSTECHNOLOGY, Nagase's online site.
Currently, on-demand multimedia content distribution service via in-house network is provided in various fields such as education sites, accommodation facilities and the entertainment industry. However, building these systems requires installation of a dedicated server and terminals, for which a great amount of money and a certain period of time for installation work, are necessary. On the other hand, TRANSGEAR DMA-100 allows users to play multimedia content by simply establishing an Ethernet connection and using a PC on the same network as a server.
The feature of the adapter is that on-demand distribution of video, music, image and other contents can be made available simply by installing server software in a general purpose PC connected to the LAN-there is no need for special equipment such as the network environment and a server. Furthermore, various formats of files can be played back, including MPEG for movies, MP3 for music, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and DivX for movies.
