NAGASE & CO., LTD. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kenji Asakura) and Mitsubishi UFJ Bank Limited (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Junichi Hanzawa) have jointly developed a Sustainability Linked Loan (SLL) framework that has been selected as a model case study in the “Model Case Study for the FY2022 Green Finance Model Case Study Creation Project” by the Ministry of the Environment. The framework was developed with the help of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, which has advanced expertise in SLL design and operation, as the coordinator, and the expertise of NAGASE & CO., LTD., a chemical trading company that supports decarbonization management through visualization and reduction of GHG emissions throughout the supply chain. Unlike conventional frameworks, the new framework is designed to enable the entire supply chain to visualize and reduce GHG emissions by adopting primary data ratios of GHG emissions as Sustainability Performance Targets (SPTs) and by allowing not only the company but also its suppliers to borrow using this framework. The framework is designed to enable not only the company but also its suppliers to borrow from the framework, thereby visualizing and reducing GHG emissions throughout the entire supply chain. This is the first time that a model case has been adopted as a trading company.
